The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) is all set to ignite the passion of women’s football in the country once again as it officially confirmed the kickoff date for the upcoming 2023/2024 women’s league season.
This exciting announcement came during the NWFL’s Annual General Meeting held in Lagos on Thursday.
Mark your calendars for November 15th, as this is the day when the women’s football extravaganza begins.
The NWFL has also made significant adjustments by promoting Ekiti Queens and Sunshine Queens to the elite division, adding more thrill to the competition.
This move increases the number of teams in the prestigious NWFL Premiership to a total of 16.
Ekiti Queens, a young state female football club, remarkably defied all odds during the Championship season.
They defeated two former Premiership teams and concluded the season as Group A runners-up with an impressive 10 points out of a possible 15.
This expansion not only means more teams but also promises an exciting season of women’s football in Nigeria.
Group B is already generating buzz as it’s considered the toughest, featuring formidable teams like Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, and defending champions, Delta Queens, all from the South.
The NWFL’s 2023/2024 season divides these sixteen teams into two groups, each with eight teams, ensuring an intense competition throughout the season.
