The management and entire Rivers Angels Football Club, led by General Manager Matilda Otuene-Onyiloha, expressed their deepest condolences to the Okara family and Bayelsa Queens following the unexpected passing of Coach Domo Okara on Saturday, June 8th, 2024.
Addressing the team’s media, Matilda Otuene-Onyiloha described Domo Okara as a brilliant figure in women’s football whose untimely death has left a huge and profound loss to the women’s game in Nigeria and across Africa, Footballrover reports.
“The news of Domo’s death is still like a film trick to us, as we find it difficult to believe that a man who was with us during the Super Six is gone,” she lamented.
Domo Okara’s passing is a significant blow to the women’s football community.
Known for his exceptional coaching skills, he recently led Bayelsa Queens to a third-place finish at the 2024 NWFL Premiership Super Six playoffs in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Okara was reported to have collapsed on Saturday morning, leading to his sudden death.
Matilda admitted the shock and sorrow felt by all who knew him, adding that they never heard he was sick and were suddenly hearing the news of his death.

On behalf of Rivers Angels’ players, coaches, and management, Mrs. Otuene-Onyiloha extended prayers for comfort and strength to Domo Okara‘s immediate family and the entire Bayelsa Queens team.
She added that, as a club, they will continue to pray for broken hearts to be healed and for such untimely deaths not to occur anymore.
