Nigeria U17 girls’ team, the Flamingos, achieved a commanding victory against Liberia in their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup final qualifying match in Monrovia on Sunday.
Under the leadership of coach Bankole Olowookere, the Flamingos dominated their hosts with a 4-1 win in the first leg at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, Footballrover reports.
The Nigerian team took an early lead, scoring three goals in the first half and adding another in the second half to secure their victory.
Despite an early goal being disallowed due to a challenge on the Liberian goalkeeper, the Flamingos continued to exert pressure.
Just six minutes after the disallowed goal, Shakirat Moshood broke the deadlock, scoring the opener for Nigeria.
Peace Effiong of Rivers Angels extended the lead in the 29th minute, and Harmony Chidi netted the third goal just seven minutes later, taking her tally to 10 goals.
The Nigerian team went into halftime with a comfortable three-goal advantage.
The Flamingos maintained their momentum in the second half, with super substitute Blessing Ifitezue adding the fourth goal just 10 minutes after coming on the pitch.
Liberia managed to score a consolation goal from the penalty spot due to an error by Onyedikachi Ekezie, but it was too late to alter the outcome.
The match concluded with a 4-1 victory in favour of Nigeria.
