Rivers United FC suffered a 2-1 defeat to Remo Stars SC in the outstanding matchday 21 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Remo Stars SC Stadium in Ikenne today.
Andy Okpe’s early penalty gave Rivers United the lead, but Remo Stars staged a remarkable comeback to claim all three points, Footballrover reports.

Okpe’s penalty in the 19th minute of the first half put the Pride of Rivers ahead, following a foul on Deputy Echeta in the box.
However, the Sky Blue Stars equalised in the 67th minute through Hadi Haruna, setting the stage for more excitement in the second period of the game.
In the dying moments of the game, Franck Elie Kwame Mawuena, Remo Stars’ foreign import, scored the winning goal to seal off a 2-1 victory for the hosts.

This win marks Remo Stars’ first-ever victory over Rivers United in the NPFL.
The defeat now leaves the Stanley Eguma side in 13th place with 40 points from 28 matches, while Remo Stars maintain their second-place position with 56 points from 32 matches, just one point behind league leaders Rangers International FC.
Rivers United have four outstanding games left to play with a visit to Kwara United on Thursday up next for them.
