Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has shared his thoughts on the tough South-West Derby clash between his team and Sunshine Stars, admitting that the game lived up to its billing as a local rivalry.
The Sky Blue Stars managed to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, courtesy of a crucial goal from Shuaib Ibrahim, Footballrover reports.
This win marked their second consecutive league win, following a commanding 2-0 opening day victory over Abia Warriors, and it kept Remo Stars’ perfect start to the season intact.
Speaking after the game, Ogunmodede reflected on the difficulties his side faced in breaking down their determined rivals.

“It’s a tough game, an extremely tough one maybe because it’s a derby,” Ogunmodede told Remo Stars media.
While the early goal from Ibrahim gave Remo Stars the upper hand, Ogunmodede acknowledged that it also spurred Sunshine Stars into action, making the contest even more challenging.
Despite admitting that his players didn’t put in a spectacular performance, the coach was pleased with their resilience.
He praised both teams for displaying quality football, stressing the significance of local derbies in Nigerian football.
The victory was crucial for Remo Stars as they continue their campaign with growing confidence, but Ogunmodede remains focused.
