The assistant coach of Sunshine Stars Bobola Akinfolarin, has pointed to a lack of concentration and missed opportunities as the key reasons behind his team’s narrow 1-0 loss to Remo Stars.
The Owena Whales, coming off an impressive 3-0 win over Bayelsa United, were hopeful of maintaining their momentum in Ikenne but were undone by an early goal, Footballrover reports.
Shuaib Ibrahim’s seventh-minute strike for the Sky Blue Stars proved to be the difference in the derby match.
Despite Sunshine Stars’ efforts to claw back, they were unable to find the back of the net, a shortfall that Coach Akinfolarin attributed to wasted chances.
“We lost the game due to lack of concentration and our inability to convert our chances,” Akinfolarin told the Sunshine Stars media team.
His comments reflected the frustration within the squad, who were expected to carry their winning form from the season opener into this fixture.
Adding to the coach’s concerns was the disallowance of what he described as an “impressive goal.”
Akinfolarin expressed confusion over the referee’s decision, suggesting it might have had a significant impact on the final outcome.
However, he maintained that the team would return to the drawing board to address their shortcomings and make the necessary adjustments.
The defeat leaves Sunshine Stars looking to regroup as they prepare for their next challenge against Abia Warriors at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode.

Akinfolarin and his team will be eager to bounce back and avoid further setbacks as they aim to stay competitive in the NPFL.
The Akure Gunners will hope to correct their defensive lapses and sharpen their attack as they look forward to securing all three points on home turf.
