The Wike Boys came into the encounter at Pantami Stadium Gombe hoping to increase their margin of victory in Group B of the abridge NPFL.

Stanley Eguma made four changes to the lineup from the team that thrashed Wikki Tourist 2-0 in their last league contest in Port Harcourt.

Sochima Victor started in goal, Temple Emekayi made his comeback as captain in defense, Joseph Onoja made his way back to Pantami Stadium, and Albert Korvah, the wonder boy of Liberia, had his first start of the campaign.

Both teams got out to a good start, but it was the Stanley Eguma team that swiftly scored through Denis Ndasi after only 25 minutes of play.

Nine minutes later, the host draw level, thanks to Musa Usman, who found back of the net to pull Doma United back into the clash.

Both teams started off the second half in the same fighting spirit as the first in an effort to take the lead and potentially seal all three points.

Nine minutes into the second half, the Pride of Rivers thought they’ve found a breakthrough. There was a shout for penalty as Nyima Nwagua goes down in the box but the referee chalked it off.

However, it was Musa Usman, who grabbed his second goal of the game to give the home team the lead in the 69th minute of the match.

With five minutes of added time, the Akinade Onigbinde side held on to their slim lead to secure the win and all three points to hand Rivers United their first defeat of the season.

The narrow defeat sees Rivers United lose their top spot in Group B to Lobi Stars, who played out a goalless draw against Niger Tornadoes.
