Rafiu Durosinmi is proving unstoppable recently. The Nigerian forward once again delivered when it mattered most, scoring a crucial goal to inspire Viktoria Plzen to a hard-fought 4-1 victory over FC Zlín in the Czech MOL Cup on Thursday evening.
His red-hot form continues to be a game-changer for his team, ensuring their progression to the next round in emphatic fashion, Footballrover reports.
While Durosinmi grabbed the headlines for guiding Viktoria Plzen to the next round, his compatriot, 26-year-old Stanley Kanu, found the net for the visitors with a consolation goal.
Recall that, the Nigerian forward had previously delivered a stunning brace to propel Viktoria Plzen to a commanding victory over Ferencváros in the Europa League playoffs.
However, despite his brilliance, he was only brought on as a late substitute in their 3-1 defeat to Slavia Prague.
How Rafiu Durosinmi sealed Viktoria Plzen cup win
Coming into their fight for a cup glory, Durosinmi, who has been in outstanding form since returning from a long-term injury, was relegated to the bench once more as Viktoria Plzen aimed to bounce back from their recent 3-1 defeat to Slavia Prague.
However, the match started on a shaky note for the hosts, as 26-year-old Stanley Kanu stunned them with a goal for the visitors just a minute after kickoff.
Plzen responded with resilience, finally finding an equaliser in the 33rd minute through Vaclav Jemelka.
Both teams battled fiercely, but with no winner at full-time and the match extended into extra time.
Just three minutes into extra time, Durosinmi displayed his clinical finishing once again, firing home to put Plzen in the lead.
Rafiu Durosinmi entered the game in the 68th minute, replacing Daniel Vasulin at the Doosan Arena.
The Nigerian forward wasted no time making an impact, showing his sharp instincts in front of goal.
Left completely unmarked inside the box, he rose high and powered a thunderous header past the stranded goalkeeper.
As the visitors pushed for a comeback, Jan Kopic sealed their fate with a stunning brace—scoring in the space of 15 minutes—to ensure Viktoria Plzen’s victory.
Viktoria Plzen cup win boosts confidence ahead of key fixtures
Viktoria Plzen could have ended the match with an emphatic 6-1 scoreline, but two of their goals were ruled out.
First, Jan Kopic thought he had found the net in the 69th minute, only for the goal to be disallowed due to an offside in the buildup.
Later, Pavel Sulc also saw his effort chalked off after the ball was adjudged to have struck the hand in the process.
With this victory, Viktoria Plzen have regained momentum after their disappointing outing against Slavia Prague.
Durosinmi’s impressive form continues to be a vital asset as they prepare for their upcoming league clash against Mladá Boleslav on Sunday before shifting focus to their Europa League showdown with Lazio next Thursday.
