Coach Whyte Ogbonna and his Rivers Angels have advanced to the semi-finals of the President Federation Cup after a commanding 5-0 victory over Osun Babes on Wednesday afternoon.
Rivers Angels owe their victory to the outstanding performances of Blessing Okpe and Olamide Adugbe, Footballrover reports.
Okpe scored a hat-trick, while Adugbe added a brace, securing a stellar display from the team.
The Jewels of Rivers entered the match brimming with confidence, having previously dominated NWFL champions Edo Queens with a 4-1 victory to secure their quarter-final spot.
The quarter-final encounter at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium was straightforward for the PH Ladies.
They showed off their superiority from the onset, needing just 14 minutes for Blessing Okpe to open the scoring from a goalmouth scramble.
Eight minutes later, Rivers Angels doubled their lead. A penalty was awarded after Osun Babes’ Abiona Abisola fouled Okpe in the 18-yard box.
Okpe calmly converted the spot-kick to make it 2-0.
In the 37th minute, Olamide Adugbe combined excellently with Aminat Folorunsho to net the third goal, giving Rivers Angels a commanding lead at halftime.
The second half saw Rivers Angels maintain their momentum.
Just 18 minutes in, Okpe completed her hat-trick with a precise cross from Chiamaka Okwuchukwu.
Two minutes later, Adugbe scored her second goal, bringing the score to 5-0.
With their passage to the next stage secured, Coach Ogbonna substituted Okpe and Adugbe for Rita Peters and Alvine Dah-Zossu as the match drew to a close.
The final whistle saw the PH women celebrating their impressive FA Cup success as they look forward to the semi-finals.
