But in the dying moments, the 30-year-old Nigerian international capitalised on a rebound from Suleiman Kamaldeen’s shot, firing home the winning goal just two minutes from time.

It marked Onuachu’s second goal of the season as he continues to play a vital role in Southampton’s fight for survival.

Juric’s praise for Onuachu’s effort

Southampton manager Ivan Juric was quick to praise Onuachu after the match, calling it a “great moment” for the striker.

Juric highlighted Onuachu’s hard work, claiming that the forward deserved his goal.

He also expressed confidence that Onuachu could add more goals to his tally, reflecting on the forward’s valuable contribution to the team.

It was a great moment. He [Onuachu] deserved it because he really worked hard; it’s his second goal. I think he can score more, but he really worked hard for the team,” he told the club’s official website.

Though the win brought Southampton only their second Premier League victory this season, the club remains bottom of the table, still 10 points from safety.
