Four Nigerian footballers—Simon Omon, David Okoromi, Samson Olayiwola, and Kenneth Ikugar—stole the spotlight over the weekend as they all found the back of the net in Czech league action, delivering standout performances for their respective clubs.
While Simon Omon bagged a brace in Jablonec B’s thrilling draw, Okoromi and Olayiwola fired Slovacko B to victory, Footballrover reports.
Kenneth Ikugar also got on the scoresheet for Sigma Olomouc B in the Czech FNL.
Simon scores twice in six-goal thriller
Simon delivered a brilliant performance, scoring twice in an exciting 3-3 home draw for Jablonec B against FK Ceska Lipa in the Czech Republic Liga 3 Group B.
The 23-year-old left-back rose to the occasion at Fotbalovy Stadion Brizky, opening the scoring just 15 minutes into the contest.
His attacking instincts were on full display again in the 74th minute when he fired home his second to make it 2-2, rescuing his side from a precarious position.
Despite Omon’s brilliance, Jablonec B couldn’t secure the win. Matej Simon equalised just before halftime, then Jindrich Novotny and Matej Simon again put the visitors ahead twice before Jan Vosahlik struck late in stoppage time to ensure the hosts grabbed a point.
The result means Simon and his teammates at Jablonec B are now without a win in three matches, following back-to-back losses against Hradec Kralove B and Kolin.
They currently sit 10th on the 17-team table with 29 points and will be looking to bounce back in their next outing against Pardubice B.
Okoromi and Olayiwola fire Slovacko B to victory
In Czech Republic Liga 3 Group A, Nigerian duo David Okoromi and Samson Olayiwola were the heroes as Slovacko B secured a commanding 2-0 away win over Karvina B.
Okoromi, 23, got things rolling at Stadion Kovona with a clinical finish just two minutes into the game.
Midfielder Olayiwola, 19, added the second goal five minutes later to complete a dream start for the visitors.
The game featured five Nigerian players, with four turning out for Slovacko B.
Paul Ndubuisi and David Jaja also featured, while 18-year-old Princewill Dimpa Nwachukwu played for Karvina B and received a yellow card for his efforts.
With this result, Okoromi and his Slovacko B teammates are now unbeaten in four matches and have climbed to 7th place with 34 points.
Ikugar’s goal not enough as Sigma Olomouc B falter again
In the Czech Republic FNL, Kenneth Ikugar scored from the penalty spot in the 57th minute for Sigma Olomouc B, but it wasn’t enough as they fell 2-1 away to FC Opava.
The match had remained goalless until Ladislav Muzik broke the deadlock in the 54th minute.
Ikugar, 24, responded quickly to level the score, netting his second goal of the campaign.
However, Jaromir Srubek struck in the 72nd minute to seal the win for Opava.
It’s now nine matches without a win for Ikugar and his side, a poor run that includes six losses and three draws.
They remain rooted to the bottom of the 16-team table with 21 points.
From Omon’s brace to Okoromi and Olayiwola’s early strikes and Ikugar’s determined spot-kick, Nigerian players continue to improve their game across various Czech leagues.
