Nigerian midfielder Stanley Charles delivered a stunning performance, finding the back of the net for FC Zlinsko in their Czech Republic Liga 3 clash on Tuesday evening, yet his individual brilliance couldn’t prevent a devastating home defeat against Start Brno.
The 22-year-old midfielder’s opening goal in the 3. MSFL round 33 contest ultimately proved insufficient as his team succumbed to a 1-3 loss at the Stadion FC Viktoria Otrokovice, Footballrover reports.q
Stanley Charles’s goal against Start Brno not enough
Charles continued his impressive scoring run, netting for the second consecutive game for FC Zlinsko.
This crucial goal against Start Brno, which came just before halftime in the 44th minute, marked his 11th strike in 33 appearances this season.
It also followed his opening goal in their thrilling 5-4 victory against FK Frydek-Mistek in their last outing.
The home crowd was buzzing, with FC Zlinsko believing they had secured a vital lead after the left-footed Nigerian winger put them ahead.
Start Brno’s dramatic turnaround
However, the second half saw a dramatic shift in momentum. Start Brno found their rhythm late in the game, and the goals started pouring in, shattering FC Zlinsko’s hopes.
David Rudyk levelled the score in the 74th minute, setting the stage for a thrilling finish. Just five minutes later, Tomas Praks put Start Brno in the lead, making it 2-1.
Despite Zlinsko’s attempts to change things up, including the 84th-minute substitution of Jakub Kozel for Stanley Charles, it was too little, too late.
Martin Zikl sealed the deal for Start Brno in the 87th minute, firing home their third goal and securing a fantastic 3-1 away victory. Talk about a late surge!
The string of poor results continues for Stanley Charles and his FC Zlinsko teammates, who have managed only one win in their last five outings, alongside three defeats and a draw.
This dip in form has seen them drop to 7th place on the table with 44 points, having secured 12 wins, 8 draws, and 13 losses after 33 rounds of fixtures.
They now trail table-toppers Kromeriz by a significant 39 points with just one match remaining – an away game against Rosice on Friday.
