The Polish football scene just got a lot more exciting with the arrival of a dynamic 21-year-old Nigerian forward: Samuel Akere.

Joining Widzew Łódź on a permanent transfer valid until June 2029, with an option for an additional season, Akere’s ambition to conquer and his unique playing style, inspired by a certain Chelsea star, promise to bring a fresh spark to the club’s aspirations for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

Originally from Botev Plovdiv in Bulgaria, where he established himself over the past two seasons, Samuel Akere brings a wealth of experience despite his young age, Footballrover reports.

He made 70 appearances in the Bulgarian top league, contributing eight goals and assists, displaying his attacking prowess.

His time in Bulgaria also saw him lift the Bulgarian Cup in the 2023/24 season, which led to appearances in the Europa League and Conference League qualifiers, where he featured six times and scored one goal.

Before his move to Botev in 2022 at just 18, Akere honed his skills in the Bulgarian second tier, making 23 appearances and scoring three goals.

His journey began at Nigeria’s G12 FC, leading him to Vista Gelendzhik in Russia in 2021 before his move to Bulgaria.

Samuel Akere is primarily a left-footed right winger, though his versatility allows him to operate effectively on the left flank, as an attacking midfielder, or even as a central striker.

His biggest assets, as he himself states, are his exceptional dribbling, fearlessness in duels, blistering speed, and a powerful shot.

He cites Pedro Neto, Chelsea winger, as his role model, admiring the very traits Akere strives to embody on the pitch.

“When I read about Widzew Łódź, I was very impressed by the atmosphere,” Akere told the club’s website, emphasising his commitment to the club’s project. “I am an ambitious footballer. I want to win trophies and fight in European cups.”

“I am glad that we welcome to Widzew a young player whom the Club will help in his sports development and who will hopefully contribute to achieving success next season,” Mindaugas Nikolicius, Sports Director of Widzew Łódź, added.

Akere’s arrival signifies a significant boost to Widzew Łódź’s attacking options. He possesses a unique ability to analyse situations swiftly and make decisive, quick decisions.

His one-on-one prowess, combined with his talent for creating space on the pitch, makes him a constant threat to opposition defences.

His speed allows him to frequently attack the space behind rival backlines, and while his primary focus is on attacking play, he also shows strong defensive discipline.
