Samuel Akere put out a good performance as Botev Plovdiv delivered a dominant 5-1 victory over Lokomotiv Sofia, propelling them into the Bulgarian Cup quarterfinals over the weekend.
The 20-year-old Nigerian forward’s timely goal helped his team recover from a recent defeat to secure a commanding win on the road, footballrover reports.
This was Akere’s second goal involvement of the season, following his first in the Europa Conference League. While the Nigerian forward scored, his compatriot Ehije Ukaki bagged an assist at the Stadion Lokomotiv on Sunday.
Botev Plovdiv’s five-star victory: A dominant performance
Akere’s crucial goal came just before halftime, sealing a commanding 3-0 lead for Botev Plovdiv at the Stadion Lokomotiv.
The visitors stunned their hosts when Aleksa Maras opened the scoring barely 10 minutes into the game.
Lokomotiv Sofia’s misery deepened when Miki Orachev scored an own goal in the 32nd minute, doubling Plovdiv’s advantage.
Akere’s goal four minutes later left Lokomotiv reeling, but they showed brief signs of resilience after Athanasios Pitsolis pulled one back in the 59th minute.
However, Ivelin Popov quickly restored the visitors’ three-goal cushion, making it 4-1.
Despite Akere’s influential performance, he was substituted in the 71st minute for Andrey Yordanov.
Botev Plovdiv didn’t let up and added a fifth goal in the 80th minute, with Christian Kassi completing the 5-1 rout.
