Nyima Nwagua, Ishaq Kayode, and Konan Ruffin all scored for Rivers United in their NPFL match against Niger Tornadoes on Monday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
The Stanley Eguma side crushed Niger Tornadoes 3-0 in Port Harcourt to bounce back from their away loss to Sunshine Stars of Akure.
Coach Abubakar Bala named two former Dolphins players, Lukman Mohammed and Ifeanyi Okoye, to Niger Tornadoes starting lineup.
Both teams started well, but it took only 30 minutes for the league leaders to break the deadlock through Ishaq Kayode.
The Pride of Rivers doubled their advantage three minutes later, and this time it was Nyima Nwagua who pulled the trigger with a simple tap-in following a wonderful feed from the substitute – Nelson Esor.
The Port Harcourt outfit finished the first half with a 2-0 advantage and continued to dominate the game in the second half.
Ishaq Kayode and Nyima Nwagua, the two goal scorers, were eventually replaced by Konan Ruffin and Solomon Okuruket.
With 81 minutes on the clock, the super sub – Konan Ruffin made it 3-0 for the home side with Nelson Esor grabbing his second assist of the game.
For the majority of the game, the visitors failed to score and were limited to long-range efforts.
The 3-0 victory sees Rivers United maintain their four-point lead at the top of the table after 25 games.
