The 2024/25 NWFL Super Six Playoffs roared to life on Saturday, May 10, 2025, with a dramatic North Central derby showdown between Nasarawa Amazons and Naija Ratels at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
What began as a nightmare start for the Amazons quickly turned into a fierce fightback that thrilled fans and set the ball rolling for an intense championship race, Footballrover reports.
Nasarawa Amazons shocked early but regain control
Despite finishing third in Group B to qualify for the NWFL Super Six, Nasarawa Amazons were caught cold just 13 minutes into the clash.
Rita Tsebee fired Naija Ratels in front with a sublime free kick that dipped over the wall and narrowly slipped past the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper.
But the Lafia-based Amazons were not going down without a fight. As the first half drew to a close, Jenat Akekeromowei silenced the Ratels’ early celebrations with a well-taken equaliser, reigniting belief in the Nasarawa Amazons camp and energising the Remo Stars Stadium crowd.
NWFL Super Six drama unfolds with grit and guts
Ten minutes into the second half, the Solid Babes completed their comeback in style.
A pinpoint corner kick found Josephine Mathias, who rose highest to head the ball home and give her side a 2-1 lead.
It was a goal born of persistence, precision, and pure determination from the Lafia-based team.
From that point on, it was a story of defensive discipline. The Amazons stood resolute, shutting down every attempt from their Abuja counterparts to draw level.
As tension grew and time ticked down, the Amazon ladies stayed composed, proving their championship mettle in the opening match of the NWFL Super 6 to bag all three points.
