Ahmed Musa’s recent performances in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) have sprung up fresh ideas about a potential Super Eagles comeback for the veteran forward.
After a flashes of brilliance since his return to Kano Pillars, Musa’s goal-scoring ability has caught the attention of former internationals, including Garba Lawal, who believes the 32-year-old still possesses the qualities needed for the national team, Footballrover reports.
Ahmed’s form since rejoining the four-time NPFL champions has been considered impressive.
With five goals already this season, his consistency in front of goal has shown he’s still determined to return to the highest level of football.
Will Nigerians see Ahmed Musa make a comeback to the Super Eagles?
Well, Lawal, a key figure in Nigeria’s 1996 Olympic gold medal-winning squad, praised Musa’s hunger for success, noting that his efforts completely show he still has a lot to offer the national team.
While Lawal strongly supports the idea of his return to the Super Eagles, he insists that the final decision rests with caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen.
Lawal, who was quoted by CompletSports, said,
“Musa has done well since returning to Kano Pillars. Scoring goals consistently in a tough league like the NPFL is no small feat. It reflects his hunger for the game and his determination to prove he still belongs at the highest level.
“We all know the challenges of playing in the NPFL. Despite these, he has scored five goals already. For me, that’s remarkable. There’s no doubt Musa has positively impacted his teammates, especially the younger players.
“It’s not every day you have a player of his calibre in the NPFL. The young players would have learnt valuable lessons from his passion and dedication to the game. He is a true role model.”
The Super Eagles have had to adjust without the winger, but recall that key figures like William Troost-Ekong have continued to emphasise the importance of the former Leicester City star to the team.
