In a thrilling Turkish Super Lig encounter over the weekend, David Okereke showed off a remarkable performance, scoring a crucial goal to cap off Gaziantep’s resounding 3-0 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir.
The Nigerian forward’s impressive cameo helped secure all three points for the team, with his clinical finish in the 75th minute providing the perfect punctuation to an already commanding performance, Footballrover reports.
Okereke, on loan from Italian club Cremonese, was initially left on the bench but quickly made his presence felt after coming on in the 71st minute.
His seamless integration into the match was evident just four minutes later, when he latched onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Badou Ndiaye, calmly slotting it past the goalkeeper with his right foot.
David Okereke’s growing confidence at Gaziantep
It was his second goal of the season, and it rounded off a near-perfect team performance that saw Kacper Kozłowski (28’) and Deian Sorescu (45’+3) already on the scoresheet.
Despite his late heroics, Okereke’s celebration was slightly tempered by a yellow card for dissent in the final moments of the game.
Nevertheless, his contribution was obvious. In his 20 minutes on the pitch, Okereke made the most of his limited touches, registering one shot on target and completing four out of eight passes.
This season, David Okereke has continued to establish himself as an integral part of Gaziantep’s attack, appearing in seven matches and starting five.
With two goals and one assist to his name, the 27-year-old’s growing confidence is clear as he plays a key role in the team’s rise to 10th place in the league standings.
His performance against Basaksehir was yet another example of his ability to deliver when called upon.
