Lobi Stars are in high spirits after receiving a match-free weekend in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), thanks to the rescheduling of their clash against Enyimba.
The match, originally slated for Sunday, September 15, 2024, in Aba, has been postponed to Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Footballrover reports.
The reason for the shift is Enyimba’s continental engagement against Étoile Filante de Ouagadougou, which ended in a goalless draw on Friday, September 13, 2024, in Bamako.
The Pride of Makurdi did not waste time in sharing their excitement. Taking to social media, they posted:
“Lobi Stars Football Club will enjoy a match-free weekend following the rescheduling of their second NPFL fixture and first away game of the ongoing 2024/2025 season, which is against Enyimba International FC.”
The delay in facing Enyimba, who are fresh from an impressive defensive display in the CAF Confederation Cup, gives Lobi Stars a breather to fine-tune their strategies for their upcoming matches.
Enyimba’s continental exploits saw them hold their Burkinabe opponents, Étoile Filante, to a stalemate.
The People’s Elephant will be looking to finish the job in the second leg at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday, September 22.
Meanwhile, Lobi Stars will remain in Makurdi, taking advantage of the extra time to sharpen their preparations for next weekend’s NPFL fixture against Rivers United and the highly anticipated midweek showdown with Enyimba.
In another development, Lobi Stars’ newly inaugurated board has decided to relocate their adopted home ground from Lafia to Bauchi, pending the completion of the renovations at Aper Aku Stadium.
The decision comes in response to the heavy usage of Lafia City Stadium, which is currently hosting multiple activities, including the Governor’s Cup competition.
With a match-free weekend, the Alia Boys are not just over the moon but also well-positioned to rest, regroup, and refine their tactics as they aim to make an early statement in the 2024/2025 NPFL season.
Recall that they kicked off their campaign with a goalless draw against Akwa United at the Lafia Township Stadium last weekend.
