In a thrilling Thursday match that unfolded in the Nigeria Premier League (NPFL), Lobi Stars of Makurdi managed to edge out Rangers International FC of Enugu, causing a significant upset in the league.
The closely contested battle saw the visitors, Rangers International FC, suffer their second defeat of the season in a 1-2 defeat, footballrover reports
The match, which was part of round 6 in the NPFL, witnessed Waheed Adebayo open the scoring for Lobi Stars in the 24th minute of the first half.
However, Rangers International FC of Enugu showed resilience and equalized barely 16 minute into the second half through Chidiebere Nwobodo.
The game remained intense until Stanley Oganbor secured the victory for Lobi Stars with a goal in the 83rd minute of the half.
Despite ten extra minutes added by the match referee, the visiting team’s efforts to salvage a draw proved futile, and Lobi Stars emerged victorious.
This result reshuffled the NPFL table, with Remo Stars leading the pack with 12 points after five rounds of matches.
Lobi Stars of Makurdi now occupy the second position with 11 points after six matches, and the Flying Antelopes of Enugu stand in third place with 10 points after their 1-2 loss to Lobi Stars in Makurdi, Benue State.
Looking ahead, Lobi Stars will continue their pursuit of the NPFL title with a visit to Bayelsa United on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Coal City side will entertain their neighbors, Heartland of Owerri, in an exciting Derby day game on Sunday.
