The Nigeria National League (NNL) is gearing up for a more competitive season with the confirmation of 12 clubs relegated from the league and four new teams promoted.
NNL Chairman George Aluo confirmed the changes while emphasising the league’s commitment to raising standards, Footballrover reports.
Following the conclusion of the 2023–2024 season, the NNL announced the relegation of 12 clubs across the four conferences.
This significant shift aims to elevate the overall quality of the league.
The relegated teams will compete in the third-tier National League One (NLO) for the 2024–2025 season.
Balancing the relegation is the promotion of four clubs—Nasarawa United, Elkanemi Warriors, Beyond Limits, and Ikorodu City FC—to the elite Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The NNL will now welcome eight teams promoted from the NLO and four relegated from the NPFL.
The NNL has also notified the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of the promotions and relegations.
Aluo highlighted that the board is now preparing for its Annual General Meeting (AGM), where these new teams will be officially welcomed.
This meeting will mark the start of the 2024–2025 NNL season.
Looking Forward to a Competitive Season:
Chairman Aluo expressed optimism for the upcoming season, stating,
“We are set and have promised Nigerians that we will improve on our last season’s performance. We have raised the standards at NNL.”
He believes the league’s recent changes, combined with the strong performances of last season’s clubs, will lead to a highly competitive season.
