Katsina United, after a close win against former Nigeria Premier Football League champions Rivers United, have made a significant decision: the suspension of their head coach, Tony Bolus.
This move, outlined in a letter signed by Katsina United’s secretary, Aminu Alhassan, was attributed to Bolus’s perceived lack of technical prowess, Footballrover reports
The club brought Bolus on board just two months ago.
However, their return to the top flight following a season in the Nigeria National League (NNL) has been marked by challenges under his guidance.
In the NPFL this season, Katsina United managed to secure only three wins, two draws, and suffered three losses out of eight games.
Their recent match resulted in a narrow 1-0 victory over Rivers United, courtesy of a sole goal by Mansoor Saleh at the Young Katsina Stars Stadium on Sunday.
With this win, Katsina United clinched three crucial points, propelling them to 11th place.
They are currently two points ahead of Rivers United, who occupy the 12th position with nine points.
Unhappy with the results, the club’s management decided it was time for the coach to step aside.
But footballrover understands that Tope Tony Bolus will remain as Katsina United Technical Adviser after issues have been resolved between the two parties.
Looking ahead, Katsina United aims to revitalize their 2023/24 NPFL campaign with the appointment of a new coach before their upcoming clash against Bayelsa United in the first week of December.
