Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has been recognised for his outstanding performances, clinching Barnsley’s Player of the Month award for January.
The Nigerian playmaker has impressed fans and his teammates, leading to being rewarded for his hard work and key role in Darrell Clarke’s squad, Footballrover reports.
Kelechi Nwakali’s rise to prominence at Barnsley
Despite a slow start to life at the English League One club, Nwakali has gradually found his rhythm, becoming a crucial figure in Barnsley’s midfield.
The 26-year-old featured in three league matches during January, showing off his skill and composure on the ball.
“Congratulations to Kelechi Nwakali for being named @CopierSystems January Player of the Month,” Barnsley announced on X, celebrating his achievement.
This recognition follows his December feat, where he won the club’s Goal of the Month award.
Since joining from Portuguese club Chaves last summer, Nwakali has steadily grown into an important player for the team.
His resilience and determination have paid off, earning him a regular spot in Clarke’s starting XI, and he has vowed to deliver more solid performances for the team.
“All thanks to God and to all the fans who voted for me as the player of the month (January), more good things to come,” the midfielder said.
What’s next for Barnsley’s midfield star?
So far this season, Nwakali has made 13 league appearances and netted one goal.
With Barnsley currently sitting 10th in League One, the midfielder will be eager to continue his fine form and help the team climb the table.
Up next, Barnsley hosts Huddersfield at Oakwell Stadium, where Nwakali will look to build on his recent success.
With momentum on his side, Kelechi Nwakali’s resurgence could be the key to Barnsley’s push for a higher league finish.
And fans will obviously be hoping for more stellar performances from the Super Eagles star.
