Kelechi Iheanacho Reflects on Celtic Debut Winner
Coming on as a second-half substitute, Kelechi Iheanacho showed composure under pressure by converting a 96th-minute penalty in front of roaring supporters.
— “I’ll feel really, really good. It’s the last kick of the game, and I got to take it, so I’m really happy,” Iheanacho said after the match.
He explained how important the goal was, not only for himself but also for the team and supporters.
— “I’m happy for the opportunity, and I could see how the fans feel after that goal. It was a really important goal, so I’m happy.
— “It’s a great feeling, but at the same time, there’s a lot of pressure as well with the spot-kick. I just took it with composure, and we won the three points today, which is massive, and hopefully there are many more to come.”
Permission From the Captain Before Spot-Kick
The new Celtic striker also revealed a key moment before stepping up to take the penalty. He sought approval from team captain Callum McGregor to ensure the team’s harmony.
— “Three points, massive. I asked the skipper to let me take the penalty, and he said it was fine,” Kelechi Iheanacho told reporters.
By holding his nerve in the dying seconds, the Nigerian international not only secured the victory but also strengthened his bond with teammates and the fans on his unforgettable debut night.
