Enyimba suffered a disappointing defeat against Kano Pillars in their rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday 14 fixture at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
The Aba Elephants fell 2-0 on Thursday evening, continuing their struggles against their northern rivals, footballrover reports.
Despite the setback, the club has reassured fans that there is “no cause for alarm” as they remain focused on their goals for the season.
Enyimba’s struggles against Kano Pillars continue
The fixture against Kano Pillars was expected to be a tough encounter, and it lived up to its billing as Enyimba found themselves on the back foot early on.
A lapse in defensive concentration saw the home side take the lead through Abba Adam’s first-half goal.
Enyimba responded well but failed to capitalise on their chances, eventually conceding a second goal that sealed their disappointing defeat.
This result extends Enyimba’s winless run in Kano, with the home side emerging victorious in their last seven encounters.
The Aba team acknowledged their defensive frailties and emphasised the need for better synergy in the backline to avoid conceding easy goals.
“We lost concentration in defence and paid dearly for that. This is where Eguma should come in, to find the right synergy and partnership in defence and to make sure that we keep our defence tight. If we must concede, the other team should work for it. We would not want to give away cheap goals like we have done in the past two games,” the club wrote on their official website.
Focus shifts to upcoming fixtures
Despite the setback, Enyimba remains optimistic about bouncing back in their upcoming matches.
The team faces a tight schedule, having recently travelled from Cairo before heading to Kano. Their next challenge is against Kwara United on Monday, with hopes of returning to winning ways.
The club believes that with improved fitness and strategic changes, they can regain momentum.
Coach Stanley Eguma is now expected to make tactical adjustments, particularly in the attack, to enhance their goal-scoring opportunities.
The club went on to reveal that key players, including versatile midfielder Eze Ekwutuziam and forwards Imoh Obot and Clinton Jephtah, are expected to return to full fitness soon.
Enyimba has urged fans to remain calm and supportive, reiterating their commitment to achieving success despite the recent disappointing result at Kano Pillars.
