In a bold statement on Sunday, Enugu Rangers star Kalu Nweke vowed that his team will not surrender the NPFL title to any team, despite their recent 2-0 defeat to Rivers United.
The Flying Antelopes’ lead at the top of the table has been cut short, but Nweke remains optimistic about their chances, Footballrover reports.
The Port Harcourt outfit secured a memorable victory at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, with goals from Alex Oyowah and Echeta Ugonna Deputy in each half.
Despite Rangers’ dominant start and show of strength, forcing four corners within the first 21 minutes, they were unable to capitalise on their chances.
The Pride of Rivers’ resilience paid off as they seized control of the game with two well-taken goals.

While reflecting on the game, Nweke, who has scored four goals and provided two assists this season, expressed disappointment at his team’s performance.
The former Abia Warriors captain admitted that it was a bad day for his team but emphasised their determination to fight for the title.
“We didn’t come to Port Harcourt to lose to Rivers United. It’s a bad day for us. But this is football. You can’t win all the time,” he said.
However, Nweke remained undeterred, affirming Rangers’ determination to clinch the 2023–2024 NPFL title.
“My team will fight to the end. We will not surrender the title to any team,” he declared.
The General Manager of Rangers International FC, Amobi Ezeaku, also expressed his team’s resolve to move forward, saying,
“It’s a bad day for us. Nothing spoil. We will move on.”
The victory sees the Coal City side lose their three-point gap at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) standings to just two.
Meanwhile, with momentum now low, they will look to bounce back to winning ways when they host Plateau United next Sunday.
