Nigerian striker Jonathan Okoronkwo put out a remarkable display in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday evening, scoring a brace and providing an assist against Adana Demirspor to power Hatayspor to a resounding 5-0 win at Yeni Adana Stadyumu.
The 21-year-old forward opened his goal account for Hatayspor in style, playing a starring role in a match that left home fans stunned and showed his immense potential in front of goal, Footballrover reports.
Brace and assist against Adana Demirspor marks breakthrough performance
Okoronkwo grabbed his first goal in the 26th minute, capitalising on Hatayspor’s early dominance after Bilal Boutobba had opened the scoring.
The Nigerian doubled his tally just 12 minutes later, netting his second in the 38th minute to complete his brace—just moments after missing a penalty.
Despite that missed opportunity, his confidence remained intact as he helped Hatayspor go into the halftime break with a commanding 3-0 lead.
Jonathan Okoronkwo turns creator after scoring brace
Hatayspor continued their ruthless display in the second half, with Okoronkwo still central to the team’s attacking rhythm.
Although he didn’t add to his goal tally, he was instrumental in the buildup to the team’s final goals.
Following Joelson Fernandes’ strike in the 56th minute, Okoronkwo turned provider in the 61st, laying off a brilliant assist for Boutobba to score his second and seal the 5-0 demolition of Adana Demirspor.
With Hatayspor in total control, the young striker was subbed off in the 64th minute for 18-year-old Deniz Aksoy.
Jonathan Okoronkwo could be the next rising star to watch in the Turkish Super Lig. The former Arsenal Tula star will be hoping to build on this performance.
