Galatasaray’s unbeaten run continued, but not without disappointment, as Victor Osimhen’s ice-cold penalty rescued a point in a 1-1 stalemate against Hatayspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
The league leaders struggled to assert dominance and needed Osimhen’s composure from the spot to avoid a shocking defeat, Footballrover reports.
Cemali Sertel stuns Galatasaray early
Heading into the match on the back of a narrow 2-1 win over Basaksehir, Galatasaray were expected to extend their winning form.
However, Hatayspor had other plans. In the 28th minute, Cemali Sertel capitalised on a loose ball in the box and smashed a rebound into the bottom corner, giving the hosts a deserved lead.
The Lions appeared rattled and struggled to respond, heading into halftime trailing by a goal.
Victor Osimhen’s ice-cold penalty preserves Galatasaray’s unbeaten run
Galatasaray found their rhythm after the break, and it took just 11 minutes for Victor Osimhen to step up.
Awarded a penalty after a VAR review, the Super Eagles striker displayed his trademark composure.
Osimhen calmly approached the ball, paused to read goalkeeper Visar Bekaj, and slotted home a perfectly placed shot into the right corner.
This ice-cold penalty marked Osimhen’s fourth goal in his last five matches, continuing his impressive form with previous goals against Kayserispor and Goztepe and an assist versus Basaksehir.
Osimhen has scored 11 goals and provided four assists in the Super Lig this season, totalling 19 goal contributions so far.
Despite salvaging a point, the draw felt like a setback for Galatasaray, whose lead at the top of the table remains intact but under pressure.
Osimhen’s crucial intervention stretched their unbeaten streak to 24 games across all competitions.
However, the Lions will need a sharper edge as they prepare to face Dynamo Kyiv in the Europa League on Tuesday.
