The 2025 Club World Cup witnessed an unexpected drama on Wednesday as Inter Milan faced a true test against Monterrey.

Fans were thrilled to see a familiar face; a Real Madrid legend delivered a stunning blow that threatened to derail Inter Milan’s campaign early, only for Lautaro Martinez to step up and ensure they snatched a crucial point, Footballrover reports.
Inter Milan’s fightback in the Club World Cup
In the Group E clash, veteran Spanish star Sergio Ramos, in his debut for Monterrey under coach Domènec Torrent, silenced the predominantly pro-Mexico crowd in Southern California with a magnificent first-half header.
It was a goal that truly stunned the European giants and set the stage for an intense battle.

Despite being the Champions League finalists, Inter Milan found themselves trailing.
The pressure was on, but Inter star forward Lautaro Martínez showed his class. He levelled the score late in the first half, bringing a much-needed sigh of relief to the Milan faithful.
Even with nearly 62% possession, the Italian side struggled to break through Monterrey’s defence again, with the Mexican team managing only one shot on target.
Martínez believed he had scored a second goal in the 68th minute, only for it to be ruled offside.
Both teams had heart-stopping close calls in the final minutes, and Martínez even picked up a yellow card in injury time, highlighting the intense nature of the match.

The los Rayados star, Sergio Ramos, went on to earn the Superior Player of the Match award.
Club World Cup Group E heats up
The excitement in Group E of the tournament didn’t stop there. In another captivating match on Tuesday in Seattle, River Plate showcased their attacking prowess by defeating Urawa Red Diamonds 3-1.
Argentina’s River Plate opened their scoring account with a powerful header from Facundo Colidio in the 12th minute, thanks to a superb cross from Marcos Acuña.

They further sealed their lead with a goal from Sebastian Driussi shortly after halftime.
Although Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds managed to cut the deficit to 2-1 with a 58th-minute penalty kick by Yusuke Matsuo, Maximiliano Meza quickly restored River Plate’s two-goal advantage in the 73rd minute.
Looking ahead, Inter Milan will now prepare to face Urawa Red Diamonds on Saturday. Meanwhile, Monterrey will have another challenging encounter as they take on River Plate.
