Inter have reclaimed first place in Serie A after a 5-0 win over Salernitana at San Siro, thanks to a hat-trick from Lautaro Martinez and a brace from Edin Dzeko.

Lautaro Martinez scored thrice to snap his league goal drought, which dated back to December, while Edin Dzeko added two close-range goals to give the Nerazzurri an emphatic victory.

Inter Milan led Salernitana 2-0 at halftime thanks to two goals from Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine linked up twice with Nicolo Barella before putting the home side ahead with brilliant strikes from inside the area.

Salernitana, on the other hand, had also gone unbeaten in their last four Serie A matches, drawing all four.

However, the relegation-fighting side, were easily cut open at the back, although it could have been a different scenario if Simone Verdi had taken his early opportunity.

He squandered a good close-range opportunity that would have sent Inter nerves buzzing.

Lautaro Martnez scored his hat-trick 11 minutes into the second half, followed by Deko’s brace in 64 and 69 minutes to complete the thrashing for the home side.

Mazzocchi was replaced at right-back by Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi after a rough second half, but his entrance had no effect on his team.

For the second time this season, Inter has scored five goals against Salernitana. In December, the Nerazzurri defeated their opponents 5-0 on the road.

After a five-match winless streak, Simone Inzaghi’s side have earned a well deserved and crucial three points.

The result propels them back to the top of Serie A, above Milan and Napoli, while Salernitana’s recent resistance was shattered, leaving them floating at the bottom.
