Nigerian forward Ifedayo Olusegun once again demonstrated his prowess in front of goal by leading PDRM FC to a thrilling 2-1 away victory over Melaka FC in the Malaysian Challenge Cup quarterfinals on Saturday.
With a brace that sealed a 4-3 aggregate win, the 33-year-old’s performance not only secured his team’s place in the semifinals but also reinforced his reputation as a decisive game-changer, Footballrover reports.
Decisive moments in the Challenge Cup quarterfinals
The first leg of the quarterfinal clash ended in a 2-2 draw at Hang Jebat Stadium, leaving PDRM FC needing an inspired performance to progress.
Olusegun wasted no time, heading in an early goal just 10 minutes into the game to give the visitors a crucial lead.
The home side responded after halftime with Muhamad Hafiz leveling the score in the 59th minute.
As the clock ticked into added time, Olusegun delivered once again, converting a precise cross from Um Deuk to score the decisive goal.
His late strike not only sealed the victory but also ensured PDRM FC advanced to the semifinals of the Challenge Cup.
Nigerian influence shines bright for PDRM FC
Olusegun wasn’t the only Nigerian making an impact.
Team captain Faith Obilor delivered a commanding 90-minute performance, while Aremu Timothy provided fresh legs in the second half and played an important role in the team’s push for success.
This victory comes on the heels of Olusegun’s sensational hat-trick and red card in PDRM’s previous five-star display over Kelantan DNFC.
What’s next for Ifedayo Olusegun and PDRM FC?
With this victory, PDRM FC shifts focus to their Malaysia Super League round 18 clash against Kuching City FC.
However, they will have to cope without their star striker, as Olusegun remains sidelined due to a suspension from his earlier red card.
