In one of the most dramatic performances of the Malaysian Super League season, 33-year-old Nigerian star Ifedayo Olusegun delivered a remarkable display for PDRM FC during their 5-0 demolition of Kelantan DNFC at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang Stadium on Wednesday.
The forward managed to pack a season’s worth of drama into the first 45 minutes, scoring a brilliant hat trick before being sent off in stoppage time, footballrover reports.
Olusegun’s hat trick sets the stage
Coming off a streak of three winless games—two consecutive defeats and a draw, PDRM FC desperately needed a turnaround, and Olusegun wasted no time.
The Nigerian opened the scoring in the 5th minute to give the hosts an early advantage.
And just when Kelantan DNFC thought they had equalised in the 22nd minute, Umeir Aznan’s effort was ruled out for offside.
Capitalising on their reprieve, Olusegun struck again in the 33rd minute before completing his first-half hat trick just seven minutes later.
His lethal finishing marked his 8th goal in 13 league appearances.
A red card and a show of resilience
The drama reached its peak in first-half stoppage time when Olusegun received a straight red card for a reckless challenge, reducing PDRM FC to 10 men.
Despite the setback, the team maintained their dominance with Shahrel Fikri adding two quick-fire goals in the space of five minutes to secure the emphatic 5-0 victory.
While Ifedayo Olusegun stole the show, his compatriot, Faith Obilor, the captain of the side, also had an impressive outing.
“Yeah!! Good game, nice feeling; everybody is happy. We were better today, so we deserve the winning; 5-0 is good, and we’re moving in the right direction. The guys, they really worked hard,” Faith Obilor said after the game.
PDRM FC’s rising fortunes
This crucial win lifts PDRM FC to 5th place in the standings with 21 points, 25 points behind table toppers Johor DT, and a massive morale boost ahead of their next fixtures.
The Nigerian star and his teammates will face Kuching City FC next in the Malaysian Super League, but first, they’ll trade tackles with Melaka FC in the MFL Challenge Cup quarter-finals.
