Nigerian duo Ibrahim Olawoyin and Babajide David delivered standout performances on Sunday afternoon to guide Çaykur Rizespor to a thrilling 6-3 victory over Göztepe in the Turkish Super Lig.
The match was a nine-goal spectacle that kept fans entertained all through 90 minutes, Footballrover reports.
Ibrahim Olawoyin dominates with goal and assist
Olawoyin was in solid form, scoring Rizespor’s second goal in the 32nd minute and providing the assist for their final strike.
The 27-year-old’s contributions took his tally to five goals and seven assists in 30 league appearances this season, which shows he’s been consistent and has great influence in the final third.
Babajide David seals the victory with clinical finish
Not to be outdone, David added Rizespor’s fifth goal in the 85th minute, effectively ending Göztepe’s hopes of a late comeback.
The 29-year-old attacker now has two goals and five assists in 30 appearances, proving to be a valuable asset for the club’s attacking unit as well.
Casper Højer opened the scoring for Rizespor in the 11th minute, but Göztepe responded through Romulo Cardoso in the 26th.
After Ibrahim Olawoyin restored the lead, Romulo struck again from the penalty spot just before halftime, leveling the game at 2-2.
The second half was all about Rizespor’s attacking firepower. Ali Sowe’s goal in the 50th minute and Altin Zeqiri’s strike 12 minutes later pushed the hosts ahead 4-2 before Göztepe’s Koray Günter cut the deficit to 4-3 in the 77th minute.
But Babajide David and Zeqiri wrapped things up in style with goals in the 85th and 87th minutes, sealing a memorable 6-3 win.
With this win, Rizespor moved to 43 points, securing their Super Lig status. Göztepe remains eighth with 47 points, with two matches left to play.
