William Agada made every minute count on Saturday night, delivering his magic touch to help Real Salt Lake seal a thrilling 3-2 win over St. Louis City in Major League Soccer.
The Nigerian forward bagged his first MLS assist of the season, inspiring fans and lifting teammates at the America First Field, Footballrover reports.
William Agada’s first MLS assist sparks key win
Agada’s clever play set up Real Salt Lake’s crucial second goal just before halftime. Linking up perfectly with Diogo Goncalves, the Nigerian forward sliced open the St. Louis defence, allowing Goncalves to blast one in from the left side of the box.
The match had started fast for Real Salt Lake, who took an early lead in the sixth minute through Noel Caliskan’s powerful strike from outside the box.
St. Louis City refused to back down. João Klauss pulled one back in the 51st minute with a solid header, but Real Salt Lake responded quickly when an own goal by Josh Yaro restored the two-goal cushion at 3-1.
However, St. Louis City cut the deficit to one when Josh Yaro redeemed himself by scoring his second-ever MLS goal, making it 3-2.
A scramble in the box involving Sam Junqua and Yaro led to a deflection off the St. Louis defender that found its way into the net, tightening the game to 3-2.
Despite a late surge, St. Louis couldn’t find the equaliser before the final whistle. Real Salt Lake held firm, securing the win thanks to more vital saves from Cabral.
What’s next for William Agada and Real Salt Lake?
This victory was Real Salt Lake’s second in three games, but they still sit 12th in the Western Conference with 22 points from 20 games.
Fans will now hope they can add more magic when they face Houston next.
