Super Falcons defensive midfielder Halimatu Ayinde has been named among the female footballers of SunSport and The Sun of London Team of the Tournament for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Ayinde was named alongside other international female football stars, like One of my best football memories so far, especially facing a talented player like Lauren James, Hinata Miyazawa, Lauren Hemp, Aitana Bonmati, Keir Walsh, Olga Carmona, Millie Bright,Amanda Illestedt, Ona Battle, and Mary Alexander Earps.
Extolling Halimatu Ayinde’s midfield qualities, the tabloids said;
“Ayinde did a solid job in marking Lauren James during Nigeria’s last-16 duel with England which the Super Falcons lost on penalties. The Chelsea starlets attacking efforts were neutralised at various points of the game due to tight marking by the defensive midfielder, Rosengard.”
