Guinea-Bissau sealed their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON ticket with a 2-1 win at home against Sierra Leone and a maximum of 13 group points after six rounds of qualifying matches for the continental football championship.
In Group A, round 6, match played at Estadio de Setembro, Bissau, Guinea, the host bounced back from an early goal scored by Amadou Bakayoko in the 6th minute of the first half for Sierra Leone to defeat the visitors 2-1 at full time.
Fernando Gomes levelled the scores at 1-1 for the hosts, with Carlos Mane’s assist in the 35th minute ending the first half with one goal apiece.
Francunolino Dju sent thousands of the home team’s supporters to all-night celebrations after scoring the second and winning goal in the 48th minute of the second half.
With the crucial away loss to Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone ended the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in third place with 5 points after 6 rounds of group matches.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football, CAF, has commended Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen over his outstanding performance in yesterday’s Group A, round 6, Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Nigeria and Sao Tome and Principe.
The Napoli striker scored a hat-trick in the match, with his goals inspiring Nigeria to a 6-0 win.
CAF took to their Twitter handle today to describe Victor Osimhen as the star man again.
“Victor Osimhen is the star man again as he nets 3 in Nigeria’s 6-goal fest against So Tomé and Principe,” CAF tweeted on their handle.
Victor Osimhen scored four goals in the first leg of the qualifiers in the Super Eagles 10-0 demolition of Sao Tome and Principe.
