Adepoju Tobi Samuel, a renowned FIFA and CAF photojournalist, popularly known as OgaNla, has expressed strong criticism towards the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the NPFL Board, attributing them as major roadblocks to the advancement of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).
According to OgaNla, these administrative bodies are impeding the league’s growth by hindering potential sponsors and operating with outdated and biased policies, Footballrover reports.
He accuses them of deliberately avoiding media coverage to divert attention, enabling unchecked embezzlement of substantial funds, estimated at over N10 billion annually within the NPFL ecosystem.
The journalist highlights glaring issues such as the questionable decision to approve cities like Owerri, Umuahia, and Akure to host top-tier league matches, which he views as damaging the league’s credibility.
Despite these challenges, OgaNla acknowledges a positive uptick in media engagement, thanks to the rise of independent content creators.
He pledges to persist in advocating for transparency and exposing the issues plaguing the NPFL to a global audience.
Emphasizing the dedication of private clubs and independent media to the football ecosystem, he lamented the lack of passion and commitment from other stakeholders.
He criticized the failure of the NPFL Board, led by Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye and COO Davidson Owunmi, to implement even basic stadium standards.
I will continue to say this, the people killing the progress of the NPFL are the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the NPFL Board – The owners of the League. They are the ones blocking sponsors and running the League with sentiment and dead policies.
