The forward, who was instrumental in Remo Stars’ impressive second-place finish in the last NPFL campaign, has surprisingly opted to join Rivers United, a team that finished a disappointing eighth, Footballrover reports.

It’s a decision that has left many scratching their heads.

Remo Stars, with their CAF Champions League qualification, seemed the more alluring option.

But Hey!! Okon is clearly seeking a new challenge and has decided to throw his lot in with former Super Eagles coach Finidi George and Rivers United.

The Pride of Rivers, eager to bounce back from that lacklustre campaign, have wasted no time in securing the services of the talented forward.

With Okon on board, they hope to inject some much-needed firepower into their squad.

The 25-year-old, who has already linked up with his new teammates at the Valuejet Cup pre-season tournament, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

And guess what? The forward is already on fire for his new team. He banged in a thunderbolt that salvaged a 1-1 draw with Kwara United in the Valuejet Cup

Okon didn’t hide his emotions as he quickly jumped on Finidi, in a move that suggested “Thank You, Boss.”

Expect a grand unveiling ceremony to officially welcome him to the Rivers United family before the new season kicks off in September.

While Okon brings CAF experience and a proven track record in the NPFL, his goal and assist numbers might not exactly set the league alight.

However, his pace, dribbling skills, and ability to create chances make him a valuable asset.

Can Okon be the missing piece in Rivers United’s puzzle? The answer deeply lies in the hands of Finidi, for sure.
