No point in being too down over defeat to Brighton - Frank Lampard

After watching his team put on yet another poor performance vs Brighton on Saturday, Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard said there was no use in becoming too depressed but professional over the defeat.No point in being too down over defeat to Brighton - Frank Lampard

Following Saturday’s Premier League loss at home to Brighton, Lampard, who was unable to contain his emotions, criticized his team’s performance on all fronts.

Conor Gallagher gave the underperforming Blues an early lead, but for the course of the full 90 minutes, the Seagulls from the opposition controlled play and produced far more opportunities.

Danny Welbeck and Julio Enciso scored goals in first and second half to earn the visiting Brighton a convincing 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

While speaking to Sky Sports, Frank Lampard said;

The better team won and could have won by more. They played like a team. They’re working together for a long time, give that credit.”

Brighton, however, now has two games in hand and has closed the gap between them and Tottenham in fifth place by four points as a result of their 2-1 victory.

Chelsea at the other end is still stuck in the middle of the pack, falling less distant from the bottom four than the top four of the Premier League table.

As it stands, they might likely finish below the top half for the first time in 27 years and match their dismal 11th place record from 1995–96, a time before the club received billions in investments.

Its not good enough from our point of view. All the basic parts of football – to fight, to run, and those things – we were short on. We have to dig ourselves out of that very quickly.” – Lampard said.

He added that;

We’ve got a big game on Tuesday. There’s no point in being too down, but professionally we have to understand why today went the way it did. And it wasn’t good for us.”

The Blues will now battle Real Madrid in Champions League on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge and they must overcome a 2-0 aggregate deficit against the defending champions.
