Bukayo Saka has sent words of out to Arsenal fans and his teammates, apologising for missing a crutial penalty during Sunday’s 2-2 tie with West Ham United.
The Gunners missed a 2-0 lead this weekend after taking what appeared to be a commanding lead in the first 10 minutes of the game thanks to Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus, as they did at Anfield last Sunday.
The Gunners were however, pushed back at London Stadium by goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen, severely undermining the team’s title prospects.
In addition to the two goals they conceded, the Gunners were left with a huge pain in their heart when Bukayo Saka missed a second-half penalty.
The forward has been in outstanding form this season, contributing 10 assists to his 12 league goals.
But during their Premier League match, the 22-year-old English star curled the penalty shot wide off the post after Michail Antonio handled the ball in his own 18-box area. Saka
Shortly after the game, Saka took to his personal Instagram account to apologize to Arsenal fans and also promised to make amends.
“Regardless of the outcome, I’ll always accept my responsibility. Apologies Gunners, I’ll do everything I can to make it right.” – he wrote
After the 2-2 tie, Arsenal is currently only four points ahead of a strong Manchester City team in the Premier League standings.
The Pep Guardiola side also have a game in hand over Arsenal and will host the teams’ forthcoming top-of-the-table matchup.
