Man United defeated Real Sociedad in their Europa League Group E match at the Reale Arena thanks to a goal from Alejandro Garnacho in the first half.

The young player scored the game’s opening goal after being picked out by Cristiano Ronaldo and firing a shot into the far top corner.

After that, La Real still struggled to get going, but just before halftime, De Gea made two outstanding saves to preserve his perfect record. First, he turned away a shot from Gorosabel and then stopped Marin’s follow-up attempt.

The encounter was merely to determine who would advance as the group winners since both teams had already advanced to the knockout stages of Europa League.

United only managed one blocked shot in the second half, falling one goal short of taking the group lead.

Real Sociedad won Group E and qualifies straight to the round of 16 thanks to their better goal differential.

But they have now lost two straight games as they get ready to meet Valencia in LaLiga.

On Monday, Man United will be placed in the playoff draw; the playoff games will take place in February. On Sunday, they will be visiting Aston Villa in the Premier League.
