Super Eagles star Victor Boniface is not a happy man and has expressed his discontent following Bayer Leverkusen’s shocking defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League final.
However, he emphasised the importance of moving forward and not dwelling on the loss, Footballrover reports.
The highly anticipated final took place at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, where Boniface started on the bench.
Bayer Leverkusen fell behind by two goals, prompting coach Xabi Alonso to introduce Boniface at halftime in an attempt to turn the tide.
Despite Boniface’s efforts, Bayer Leverkusen struggled to break through Atalanta’s defense, masterminded by Gian Piero Gasperini.
The match ended in a 3-0 victory for Atalanta, with Ademola Lookman delivering a spectacular performance by scoring a hat-trick.
Lookman’s first goal was a deft strike following a low cross from Davide Zappacosta.
He followed it up by nutmegging Granit Xhaka and powering a shot past the goalkeeper.
He completed his hat-trick with a stunning solo effort, driving the ball into the roof of the net after a quick counter-attack.
This loss not only dashed Bayer Leverkusen’s hopes of lifting the Europa League trophy but also ended their impressive 52-game unbeaten streak in European competitions.
In the aftermath of the defeat, Boniface took to social media to express his feelings.
He wrote on his X page (formerly Twitter),
“Toor na part of the work. 1 more to go,” indicating his focus on the upcoming German Cup final against Kaiserslautern.

Bayer Leverkusen are strong favourites as they prepare to face second-tier Kaiserslautern.
The Europa League loss has undoubtedly fueled their determination to clinch the DFB-Pokal trophy.
Boniface is hopeful that he can contribute significantly to his team’s success in the final.
A victory in the German Cup would not only be a redemption for Bayer Leverkusen but also see them dethrone the current champions, RB Leipzig.
