Nigeria women’s football league champions, Delta Queens of Asaba, have picked one of the semi-final spots in the ongoing sub-regional CAF women’s Champion League qualifier held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
Delta Queens defeated Benin Republic Women’s League champions Sam Nelly, 2-0, in the second match of Group A to pick up six group points and a semi-final ticket to the championship.
Owoeye Temitope opened the scoring for Delta Queens in the 34th minute of the first half of the match before Ifeoma Ifituzue doubled the lead for the Nigerian women’s club champions in the 54th minute of the second half of the match.
Owoeye Temitope almost scored a brace with a long-range shot in 68th minute of the second half, but her effort did not yield a positive result.
Three substitutions in the 78th minute by Delta Queens coach did not change the course of the game as he substituted captain Taiwo Afolabi, Omokwo Mercy, and Effiong Ekeng for Fehintola Mabokanje.
