Nigeria Women Football League side – Delta Queens has officially named Taiwo Afolabi as the new captain of the prestigious team ahead of their 2023/24 campaign.
The FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Bronze medalist couldn’t contain her joy as she took to her social media page to pour out her emotions.
In her heartfelt message, Taiwo Afolabi conveyed her gratitude for being bestowed the captaincy of Delta Queens, emphasizing her focus on the team’s success rather than personal recognition.
Commending the club’s adept management and her supportive teammates for entrusting her with this newfound responsibility, she humbly admitted that assuming the role was beyond what she envisaged.
“It’s an honor to be named the captain of Delta Queens, it wasn’t something I actually want or was expecting because my aim is to help the team win on the pitch. I really appreciate the management of the club and my teammates for this new role,” Taiwo Afolabi wrote on her twitter page.
Meanwhile, ahead of their Wafu B Champions League game, the new Delta Queens captain, Taiwo Afolabi has wholeheartedly pledged an unparalleled level of commitment from her team.
Speaking exclusively to Echonews, the skipper of the Asaba-based club revealed that her team’s goal is to deliver a strong performance that would help them win their first continental trophy.
She admitted that given the training they have received recently, they are heading into the game prepared to provide nothing short than a perfect performance in order to accomplish their goal of winning the Wafu B.
