Super Eagles star Chidera Ejuke didn’t have the dream start at Sevilla, as the La Liga giants lost 2-0 to South African team Orlando Pirates in a pre-season friendly on Monday at the Estadio Jesus Navas.

The summer signing from CSKA Moscow was named in the starting lineup but was substituted alongside compatriot and Orlando Pirates captain Olisa Ndah at halftime, Footballrover reports.

Ndah lifted the armband for the South African club before making way for Nkosinathi Sibisi in the second half.

While Ejuke couldn’t help but watch his side from succumb to goals from Miguel Timm and Kabelo Dlamini.

Timm opened the scoring for the Pirates in the 21st minute, while Dlamini put the result beyond doubt just nine minutes before stoppage time.

The defeat extends Sevilla’s woes from last season, putting them one loss away from a worrying streak of six consecutive defeats.

Ejuke, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer after his contract with CSKA Moscow expired, will be eager to bounce back alongside his new teammates in their upcoming pre-season fixture against Sporting CP in Portugal next Tuesday.

The tricky Nigerian winger is expected to play a key role for Sevilla in the upcoming La Liga season, having impressed during his time in Europe with Valerenga, Heerenveen, and CSKA Moscow.
