Enugu Rangers Crowned NPFL Champions for 2023/24 Season with Dominant Performance over Insurance

All seems to have gone well for Enugu Rangers, as the Coal City side are now crowned champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the 2023–2024 season.

The Flying Antelopes secured the title with a resounding 2-0 victory against Bendel Insurance FC, Benin City, at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, Footballrover reports.

Goals from Kenechukwu Augustine in the 32nd minute and Chidiebere Nwobodo in the 60th minute ensured the Enugu-based team finished the season with 67 points after 37 matches.

From the beginning, our focus as a team was to win every game in the league. We never pressure ourselves to win the NPFL, but we win every game. I’m happy we achieved our goal even before the end of the season,” Fidelis Ilechukwu, Rangers coach, said. 

Their rivals, Enyimba International FC, Aba, Remo Stars FC, Ikenne, and Shooting Stars FC, Ibadan, all lost their away matches.

Enyimba was defeated 2-1 by Sporting Lagos FC, Remo Stars lost 2-1 to Sunshine Stars in Akure, and Shooting Stars were beaten 2-1 by Bayelsa United FC in Yenagoa.

Remo Stars remain in second place in the NPFL standings with 62 points, while Enyimba International is third with 60 points.

Shooting Stars are in fourth place with 62 points after their loss at Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.

The NPFL round-of-37 matches also saw three players receive red cards.

Olamilekan Adedayo of Remo Stars and Emmanuel Oguagu of Sunshine Stars were sent off in the 43rd and 72nd minutes, respectively, during their match in Akure.

Adeleye Aniyikaye of Shooting Stars was sent off in the 26th minute of the first half at Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.
