As Enyimba FC prepares for a critical CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round clash against Burkina Faso’s Etoile Filante later today, head coach Olanrewaju Yemi Daniel has made a statement that could raise eyebrows: the Nigerian giants don’t know much about their opponents.
The coach admitted this while speaking ahead of the continental fixture, Footballrover reports.
“We don’t really have much information about them; I know they must have been following us, but this is Enyimba FC. I know what the club represents and stands for, which is winning.”
Despite claiming lack of knowledge, Daniel remains steadfast in his belief that Enyimba’s winning mentality will carry them through.
“You don’t win yesterday and start celebrating and forget you have to win the next game. And this is the attitude and culture of the club I’m letting my boys know,” he said.
Daniel further emphasised that merely winning one game isn’t enough for Enyimba, stating,
“This is not a club you end in 4th and you are happy or you win one match and you are carried away. You must win always. So we’ll go there and fight to represent the club and hope for a good result.”
Enyimba arrived in Bamako, Mali, ready to take on their opponents at the Stade Mamadou Konaté for the crucial first leg clash.
The team landed at Modibo Keita International Airport (BKO) on Thursday evening, full of anticipation for the match ahead.
It turns out that the Burkinabe team have chosen the Mamadou Konaté Stadium as their home ground after their usual venue didn’t meet CAF’s standards.
The People’s Elephant are eager to seize this opportunity and secure their place in the group stages of the competition after being given a bye in the first round.
Riding high on the momentum from their recent 3-1 comeback victory over Heartland in their season opener, the Aba Boys are set to make a statement in this important fixture.
