Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has chosen to keep his personal ambition for the season under wraps; he wants it private as he focusses on regaining full fitness after battling multiple injuries last season.
Taiwo Awoniyi is poised to regain his spot in Nottingham Forest’s starting XI following a difficult period plagued by injuries last season, Footballrover reports.
The Nigerian international, who missed two stretches of the previous campaign, is steadily getting back into form.
Awoniyi had surgery to address a recurring groin issue, only to suffer a thigh injury later, which sidelined him for a prolonged time.
However, the striker is now easing back into match fitness, having made substitute appearances in Forest’s first three Premier League games of the season.
His determination to return to his peak performance levels has been evident, as he works hard to build on his progress.
Speaking about his return, Awoniyi expressed his joy at being back on the pitch and stressed the importance of resilience.
The Super Eagles star noted that while recovering from injury required a lot of hard work, it was ultimately rewarding to return to the field.
The forward admitted that injuries are an inevitable part of a footballer’s life but emphasised the need to stay focused and fit.
Awoniyi also praised Nottingham Forest’s squad depth, describing his teammates as talented and trustworthy, which helped lighten the burden during his absence.
While the Nigerian is eager to re-establish himself as a key player, he remains reserved about his personal goals for the season.
“Talking about targets for this season, I will keep that to myself. Every player has what they are looking forward to, and that goes for me as well,” he revealed.
Despite the challenges, Awoniyi remains confident that his goals will come as long as he stays fit and puts in the work.
He is taking things one step at a time, knowing that patience and hard work are the keys to success in his quest to break back into the first team.
