Rasheedat Ajibade wrapped up the season with a goal and an MVP of the match performance to seal a place for Atletico Madrid in next season’s Champions League.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria star Rasheedat Ajibade found the back of the net in the Primera División de la Liga de Fútbol Femenino fixture played on Saturday, Footballrover reports.
Her performance inspired Atletico Madrid to a narrow victory over Villarreal, sealing their spot in next season’s European competition.
The Nigerian international scored the only goal of the game in the 75th minute as Atletico Madrid made history.
They overcame Villarreal 1-0 in the second half, courtesy of a goal by Ajibade, which guaranteed their return to the women’s club football competition.
Atletico Madrid was able to secure a spot in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with the help of Ajibade.
In this way, they will compete in the top continental competition for the sixth time.
In her 90 minutes of action on La Liga F matchday 30, she created well over five chances, but her teammates failed to capitalise.
Despite losing out on three seasons of European competition, the red and white club has managed to finish among the top three teams with 61 points.
It is now expected that Ajibade will head back to Nigeria to assist the Super Falcons in getting ready to compete in the Olympic qualifying tournament.
