Fresh from being crowned Atlético de Madrid Femenino Player of the Month for the third consecutive time, Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade produced another mesmerising performance for her team against Real Madrid on Saturday.
The Nigerian forward inspired her team to a thrilling 3-2 away win, edging them closer to realising their dream of securing a spot in the Women’s Champions League, Footballrover reports.
Rasheedat Ajibade delivered an MVP-worthy performance, scoring a goal and providing an assist in Atletico de Madrid Femenino’s impressive Liga F Madrid derby victory at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.
The Nigerian forward gave her team a 2-1 lead heading into halftime and set up the winning goal late in the game.
Ajibade entered the game with confidence, having been named Player of the Month for April at Spanish La Liga Femeni side Atletico Madrid.
However, the hosts took the lead when Caroline-Sophie Moller scored after 34 minutes of gameplay.
The visitors fought back, and Ana Vitoria equalised just three minutes later, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
The second half resumed with intensity, and Ajibade gave her team the lead for the first time in the game just 11 minutes in.
Yet, the home side were not ready to throw away three points that easily, as they equalised in the 70th minute through Brazilian defender Kathellen.
Undeterred, the visitors stunned their hosts six minutes later when Ajibade combined with Vilde Boe Risa to snatch a 3-2 win and all three points for her team.
This season, the 24-year-old Nigerian has impressively contributed eight goals and six assists to Atletico Madrid’s campaign, significantly aiding the club’s quest to maintain their third-place standing in Liga F.
Despite the victory, Rasheedat Ajibade and her teammates trail second-placed Real Madrid by ten points and lead Levante by just three points.
With only three games remaining, Atletico Madrid are in a solid position to secure a Champions League spot and will face their closest rival, Levante Las Planas, next in a crucial clash.
